Launched in 2017. The DWS Commodity Team ingests and stores large quantities of macroeconomic, market, and financial data related to the signals, indicators, and various data actuals to make tactical investment decisions in global commodity markets.

The focus of this solution was to streamline data ingestion and output it in a user-friendly method to reduce manual operational time on data retrival, cleaning, and outputting.

What I Did:

• Customer interviews to understand data needs.
• Engage with business owners (COO) and Finance to understand business needs and budget constraints
• E2E ownership of data migration from Excel to SQL server.
• Manage external data vendors and streamline data ingestion method.
• Design mockup and Excel and R-based prototype to serve as front-end output for SQL database.
• Collaborated with Tech to set up and test database reliability and security.

Outcomes:

• Reduce quarterly operational processing time by 20%.
• Improved visibility and timeliness of research data received from external vendors for portfolio managers.
